Problem Description:

Database stuck in restoring state while performing database restore and this is not very common issue during database restore. There could be multiple reasons of database restore stuck in restoring state. This is a case of SQL Server on Linux where database restore got interrupted due to file system full issue.

Solution:

In this case, we need to first fix the actual issue, i.e. file system full issue and get the file system expanded. once it fixed we can restart the database restore with RESTART clause.

RESTORE DATABASE…WITH RESTART command is a very useful command and we can still restart the process and continue from that point where restore got interrupted. This is really useful for very large database where restore was interrupted and we don't want to restore it again to save time. It is well documented on Microsoft website and can be accessed from here

RESTORE DATABASE Dbalyfe
FROM DISK ='D:\SQLSERVER\MSSQL\Dbalyfe.bak'
WITH RESTART
GO
